Can You Recommend The Best Communications For A School?

Your best bet, be it for general use in academic studies, health and safety concerns or simply security, would be to employ a digital two-way radio system, something like the Motorola SL4000. I’m specifically suggesting Motorola because they handle jobs like this all the time, several of which are detailed on their website.

In fact, the Motorola website details a case almost exactly like yours, where this technology was employed to great effect.

According to the site, the Cincinnati State Technical and Community College (CSTCC) was in a situation just like the one you outlined in your email. Here’s the basic issue...

“CSTCC is comprised of three campuses and over 1.3 million square feet.  Until recently, the college used an all-analog system, components of which  were 15 years old.  According to Raymond Mirizzi, Director of Facilities at CSTCC, “We needed to upgrade our whole communications system,” and it  was vital that the entire campus be covered with a radio solution that would  support very clear, consistent and secure communications”.

How a two-way radio network helped the situation is also detailed.

“The three-part campus needed a supervisory channel that would provide the flexibility for critical security officers and related personnel to communicate during times of crisis. Of course, because such emergencies can arise at any time, it was also critically important that the migration from analog to digital proceed smoothly and quickly because even brief downtime could put the campus at risk”.

There are lots of companies other than Motorola, of course, but there’s no denying that they are giants in their field, with a long history of customer satisfaction. They are something like The ‘A’ Team in that respect. Still, if your budget doesn’t quite allow for bells and whistles, there are a number of quality independent firms that could do a very good job at a slightly more reasonable rate.

The reality here is that bargains are the exception, not the rule. That’s why we’re always so happy when we get one. By far your best bet is to get an expert to design and implement your faculty’s new communications method. It needn’t be the biggest company, but you want to spend a good amount on communications, as they really do save lives.

How To Wear Radio Earpiece

Radio earpieces look really cool. They are generally used for surveillance but some enthusiasts also wear them just for fun. Secret agents and spies in the movies have made these accessories really cool to wear.

Putting on a radio earpiece is not a tough job. To put on an earpiece, first of all you need to take that earpiece and microphone clip in your hand. The microphone is to be put where you are most comfortable with it. It can be put on your hands, specifically on your wrist. You must have seen Spies or Secret Service agents in movies lifting their wrists talk. This is where they are speaking into the mouthpiece on their wrists.

If you're not comfortable with the mouthpiece on the wrist, you can also put it on the tie or on the shirt, on your chest. Once you have clipped on the mouthpiece, it is time to put on the radio. Take the wire dangling from the mouthpiece and put it inside your shirt. Take this wire out from the top of the shirt. This way the dangling wires will be completely hidden. Take the earpiece and put it on your ears. Make sure, that it fits tightly and would not fall off when you start to walk. You can put it on either ear. If you are wearing the mouthpiece on the wrist, you will find it comfortable to put the earpiece on the same side ear.

Once you are comfortable with the mouthpiece and the earpiece, it is the turn of the end which goes into the radio. Take this dangling wire connecting that end with earpiece and mouthpiece and put it inside your shirt. Take out the wire from the bottom of the shirt. Put it in the radio and clip the radio in its place on your pants. Once you have that these wires inside your shirt completely, you need to tuck in your shirt inside your pants so that none of the wires are visible.

Once everything is fixed, switch on the said radio and test the settings. If everything is working as it should be then you have put on the radio earpiece correctly.

Wait, you are not done yet!

Once you have tucked in your shirt inside your pants and put on your jacket, you need to test the comfort level of this piece by walking around a few paces up and down. If you're comfortable with the earpiece and the mouthpiece and are able to talk on radio, then you are set for the job. If any of the wires are the earpiece or the mouthpiece is making you uncomfortable, you need to reset your wires.

The real advantage of a concealed earpiece is that others wouldn't notice when you are talking on a concealed earpiece. If you're uncomfortable wearing these or with the wires, you lose the advantage of a hidden radio earpiece. Therefore it is very important to check the complete settings by walking around.

Congratulations, you have successfully put on a radio earpiece. Now, enjoy talking like a secret service agent.

'13: The Time of Augmented reality

2013 is going to be the year of AR.

Here near the end of 2012, we are already getting a quick adoption of Augmented reality technology. Portable gadgets such as tablets, mini machines and smart phones are seemingly tailor-made for this new darling of the Information period.

So what is Augmented reality? Well, AR (or ‘augmented reality’ to its friends), is largely the process of using computer generated images and/or information onto real life images (at least the kind of AR we are talking here is, anyway, its an open-ended phrase, so post your complaints within the comments section, please). Augmented reality might be functional to paper supplements (so that when the articles or pictures are watched through a smart phone application they jump to life and present supplementary content), street corners (much like the application that can mention all relevant information pertaining to a restaurant, including feedback, menus and special offers, just by holding your phone in the route of the eatery itself) and even the night sky (yes, some AR apps will in reality offer scientific data and Hubble telescope information on divine bodies and constellations as you look at them on your smart phone).

AR is coming all together in a great way and make no mistake about it. Google Glass, a development unveiled by Google X Lab earlier this year, is one real example. Taking the form of a fashionable pair of spectacles, Glass users are able to walk down the road and access any information they see fit as they do so. They’ll even be able to film their day by day proceedings, or take snapshots of things as they occur. Reality will be re-shaped in real time by glasses; you can even use them to generate video calls to loved ones. Google Glass is going to be made available to developers early next year and, by the start of 2014, will become commercially obtainable, together with dozens of other exciting products of the ilk.

AR’s impression on home enjoyment (especially games) will also be felt, but there can be far more ‘grown up’ uses for that technology in the pipeline. Variations of AR are already getting used to coach troopers, educate would-be doctors and instruct firefighters in digital burning buildings. If you do not have the money for a smart phone, Google Glass or the rest we’ve mentioned, you’ll see the effects of Augmented reality on television sports casting (take a look at the actual-time analysis overlaid on recent NFL matches) and on store window promotion (disobedient high street chain Anne Summers pioneered a particularly unforgettable one earlier this year).

In 2013, with more money coming in from AR applications, video games and gadgets, we can expect a rapid development of this technology. This means that by the top of next year, AR might be an inescapable fact of contemporary life. We expect AR to become a major selling point next year, with companies offering an greater than before quantity of Augmented reality-ready mini games as accessories on a choice of devices plus much more AR apps being developed than at any time.

In the event you’re in training as a doctor, a soldier, a policemen or perhaps a fireman, the chances are you’ll encounter Augmented reality (if you haven’t already) in 2013. Obviously, this won’t replace the knowledge of dashing into a burning structure, going into battle or performing complicated surgery (but it isn’t trying to), but the possibility is there for further thorough and meticulous training for professionals in these areas. Furthermore, it will not be long before CEO’s and managers are holding Augmented reality-infused meetings, by which the attendees can get into relevant information in real time, which will definitely beat a Powerpoint presentation any day!

In 2013, anticipate adverts, newspaper supplements and phone games to include an rising element of AR capability. Augmented reality is taking the fast track into our lives and 2013 might be a pivotal time for this.

Next year will be the most technologically advanced time in mankind’s story to date and, if that seems like an easy thing to mention, consider the scale of the statement. Like the Net before it, AR is about to make a big splash in our lives and 2013 is going to be the biggest ripple so far. Simply, we could’t wait for it...

Unsustainable materials used in our everyday gadgets, are going to run out someday

A new report has concluded that a sizeable proportion of modern technology (in particular smartphones, tablets and other commonly-used gadgets) is extremely over reliant on very rare materials.

If the report’s findings are accurate, the scarcity of the metals and metalloids in question, combined with a sharply increasing demand for such devices, could seriously damage design innovation, as well as the manufacture of future products.

The report, compiled by researchers at Yale University, discussed the use of 62 materials found in widely used technology. Ultimately, the study concluded that none of the 62 metals or metalloids could be replaced without damaging the efficiency of the product. In fact, 12 of the 62 materials could not be replaced at all.<!--more-->

The potential substitute materials simply aren’t up to the job or, perhaps more worryingly, don’t actually exist. In either instance, these material shortages could lead to an economic and technological downturn in the development of mobile technology.

All of the rare components listed are difficult and expensive to obtain.

This scarcity of productavailability would limit potential profits, as well as creating something of a ‘glass ceiling’ for innovation and product improvement.

This new report marks the first time that this worrying issue has been properly researched.

In the eyes of many, this study should be seen as a warning and a wake up call. In 2010, China restricted the trading of some of the components featured in the study. It was an act that increased market prices fivefold.

As these materials become increasingly rare, tactics like this may become ever more frequent, causing increased political tension around the world.

It also needs to be stated that the mass manufacture of these devices drains the planet of natural resources and the processing of these materials seriously harms our environment.

The report itself warns that,

"As wealth and population increase worldwide in the next few decades, scientists will be increasingly challenged to maintain and improve product utility by designing new and better materials, but doing so under potential constraints in resource availability."

A Personal experience of a doorman using an earpiece

Communication, as you all know is so vital in all aspects of our lives. In any security set up, whether you are protecting high profile personnel or you are carrying out a covert operation or even just working as a doorman, one thing has been clear to me; that communication between you and your team or your bosses is vital as well in ensuring that things run smoothly. However, communication may be interrupted depending on the working environment. Other days you may find yourself in rather noisy crowds. When this happens, it is important that you choose the right communication device and accessories that will make your work easier. An earpiece has been one of my favorite working gadgets for a very long time.

Why Do I like the doorman earpiece

Ever since I started using doorman earpiece, things have really been smooth for me and my work. An earpiece makes it practically simple to communicate and coordinate things between me and my colleagues together with my employers. Among the things that make these earpieces interesting and fun to work with include:

* They are en suite with excellent quality Kevlar cabling and strain relief that are long lasting which protects them from spoiling when pushed to the extreme.

* Doorman earpieces have excellent audio quality that easily neutralise any surrounding noise allowing an operative to hear everything said to them in a very clear and loud manner. In addition, most of them are fitted with microphones making it easier for a two way communication.

* They are compatible with a lot of gadgets and even more comforting is the fact they can easily be replaced at a very affordable price.

* Unlike many electronic gadgets, doorman earpiece is pretty easier to configure and use. It will interest you to know that no skill or knowledge is required to set it up and make it work.

What to look for when purchasing an earpiece

Technology keeps changing from time to time, and so are needs. As a doorman/bouncer, there are specific things you ought to look for when purchasing a doorman earpiece. These are features that are needs to be compatible, rather friendly with your working environment and your preference as a person. For instance, if your work is based in a noisy environment like say a club, you will need very fine audio quality sets that fit properly in your ear preventing any interruption from outside. In addition, you may consider the cords strength if you are working in a hostile environment where people keep getting in fights.

Compatibility is another important thing to look for in a earpiece. Note that there are earpieces that are compatible with nearly all types of gadgets while others are restricted to only specified gadgets. For flexibility be keen to purchase an earpiece is works with wide range of gadgets. Finally, the cost is equally as important. Contrary to what many people believe, expensive doesna€™t always mean better, the same way inexpensive doesna€™t necessarily mean something is of poor quality. Compare features and always go for one that looks a bit refined for a better experience.

Conclusion

It is clear that every one working in security should absolutely have a set of doorman earpieces. It is not only efficient, but also profoundly valuable to this line of work. Take your time, and determine what will work for and get the earpiece that will make your work easier.

Can a Kenwood Radio be used to Communicate with a Motorola Radio?

To answer your question, Can a Kenwood Radio be used to Communicate with a Motorola Radio? (that is, after all, why I'm here): It depends entirely on which models you are planning to use. For example, if you had two PMR446 variants that were both on the same band, they ought to work fine (even if one was Kenwood and the other was Motorola).

If two radios are the same basic type and set to the same channel, then I don't personally see why they wouldn't work. However, if they aren't of the same type, then they probably won't work, it's that simple.

Two-way radio technology is both simpler than you'd think it would be and more complicated than it first appears (if that makes sense), so its always best to make sure you have access to good kit that is easy to use. Personally, (if it is at all possible for you) I'd suggest spending out a bit and getting a new set, I'll explain why below…

Your question does incur a dangerous element, so I feel I'd better warn you. Make sure that you understand, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that your license covers the frequency you are using. For most of the frequencies you'd likely to be using in order to connect the two devices, a special license is required. Transmitting without a license is a serious crime and you could spend up to two years in prison.

As Robert J from Yahoo! Answers. suggests, the reason it's considered to be so serious an offence is because you can actually endanger lives by interrupting radio transmissions from ambulances or police cars. I hate to sound like a square here, but in this instance, the rules exist for a reason.

Anyway, you really need to do your homework on this one and it may actually turn out to be easier and cheaper for you to just buy a new set of radios from either Kenwood or Motorola. If you were running a business, I'd go as far as to actually recommend you take this step.

However, if you're only using the radios for personal projects, then provided you check them out and stick to the rules, you shouldn't have a problem.

Every year we have a new batch of Playstation 4 games, when will this stop! with a bit of luck never.

Where do the latest sit on the Pantheon of the Playstation 4? Let’s have a look-see.

Signed in to.

“Well, with a little trepidation I’ve finally done it” the update read “I’ve bought my own detached house. It has all appliances I could need and a beautiful thatched roof”

Only a little bit older than I am and we’re both writers, only he’s had a bit more success than yours truly. I didn’t know he’d had that much success, however. Quite what (or who) he’d pulled off to suddenly get this kind of money. Which meant he could see his friends all day. We had fun. He moved away and we didn’t really talk until I randomly met him on a train some years later. We still shared common ground. I was about to say ‘well done’ when I saw the end of his post. Dork.

Bob is not alone, loads of people had great fun last year with PS4 games. Skyrim destroyed the social lives of half of my friends. Awesome graphics, Skyrim was quite rightly lauded as one of the best games of 2012. Each. Saw him.

Fell prey to. Gamers are obviously still buying it, which might not. Might annoy F1 fans who get confused and buy it by mistake. Its the next version along from the last release. Its not anything new.

One more of last year’s big sellers was was ‘Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi’ to be fair, I don’t know why I picked this one. I don’t even know what ‘Tenkaichi’ is (I think its served in a sort of smingy sauce. I hate Dragonball Z. Have you ever actually tried to watch previous. Easy to kill” the heroes are over the same desolated area that was destroyed last series. Extremely pissed off) hero gets really mad, glows yellow and kills him. The end. And it only took ten episodes. What’s that? Oh, the game? {I have no idea, I got sidetracked|Distracted|Taken off on a tangent…Pissed off and angrier.

I Can See Evidently Now…Plasma Television gets a good reception

The plasma TV is fast turning into one of those ‘every home should have one’ things. These days, almost every friend I visit has some variation on the LCD television against their wall or tucked in the corner of the living room somewhere.

The advantages of plasma television are numerous, aside from improved picture, which is a given, plasma TV is also easier to attach modern peripherals to and is entirely digital of course. It even takes up far less space in the room than the bulkier models. It is utterly modern, and it looks as swish as swish can look.

On an LCD television, I watched ‘Evil Dead’ and it was like Bruce Campbell was coming right at me! The picture quality is simply outstanding. Everything is so clear, it’s like you’ve been watching TV with cataracts your entire life. Aplasma TV says something about you, it says that you are the kind of devil-may-care rogue who isn’t satisfied with merely watching ‘Evil Dead’. Oh no, not you. You want to be splattered with dog food and karo syrup too! (nerd joke).

Of course, if you hook it up with a Blu Ray player and 5.1 surround sound, then you’re really setting a dangerous precedent. You might think your plasma tv is real life and mistake your Blu Ray collection for actual memories. Imagine, if you will, texting your best mate thus: ‘Can’t come over 2nite m8, got to blow up the Death Star then raid the lost ark.’ Though, knowing my friends, they would probably think the second one was a rude euphemism, and it’s doubtful that ‘Death star’ is on predictive text.

Work days would fly by, rent and phone bills would go unpaid, but what could you do? You were at Woodstock…Your girl/boyfriend would shack up with your best mate/sibling (whichever sounds worst) and sooner or later the police would kick down your door and find you in your dressing gown swinging a flashlight around and calling yourself ‘Obi Wan’. But you know what? There’s every chance that you won’t end up being a plasma TV casualty. In fact, there’s every chance you will simply vastly improve your home entertainment system. However, I’m still not responsible if you stick cutlery between your fingers, gel up your hair and make people call you ‘Wolverine.’

Nation Mourns Fundraiser Stephen Sutton

Stephen Sutton, the courageous 19-year-old cancer patient who raised more than £3Million for charity has sadly passed away.

Stephen’s story resonated with the hearts and minds of the British people once the news of his fundraising activities spread to social media. The Facebook post announcing his death was shared 120,000 times within an hour of going live.

However, Stephen’s good work has yet to end. Just two hours after the news was announced, Sutton’s fundraising page handled some £60,000 in donations. The total is now at £3.72 million and is still rising.

Jane Sutton, Stephen’s mother, said in a statement that, “My heart is bursting with pride but breaking with pain for my courageous, selfless, inspirational son”.

Stephen SuttonStephen Sutton was diagnosed with terminal metastatic bowel cancer aged just 15. The young man drew up a ‘bucket list’ of things he wanted to do before he died. These included skydiving, hugging an elephant and getting a tattoo. He also played the drums before the Uefa Champions League Final at Wembley last year, performing for some 90,000 attending fans.

Sutton even broke a world record by getting 554 people to make a heart shaped hand gesture earlier this month.

His charity work began when he set himself the goal of raising £10,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, but he did quite a bit better than that. Celebrities caught wind of Stephen’s selfless goals and pretty soon, publicity and money was flooding in. Comedian Jason Manford, one of Stephen’s strongest supporters, said that the young man “was the most inspiring person I’ve ever met and (he) touched more lives than he will ever know”

“In his darkest hour he selflessly dedicated his final moments to raising millions of pounds for teenagers with cancer”

The Teenage Cancer Trust, who received their largest ever donation from Stephen’s ‘Just Giving’ page said, "We are humbled and hugely grateful for what Stephen achieved and continues to achieve for us."

On the page itself (https://www.justgiving.com/stephen-sutton-tct), Stephen says,

“Hi! My name’s Stephen and I’m pretty much like your average teenager- except for the last three years now I’ve been battling cancer. The current opinion voiced by my doctors is that my disease is incurable, and as a result I want to spend as much time as possible raising funds for a charity very close to my heart”.

The introduction doesn’t dwell on the negative, but instead looks forward with a positive eye, which just about says it all, really.

The image thatmost people will have of Stephen Sutton is of a fresh faced; handsome young man giving two thumbs up to the camera. A breathing mask pulled to one side is unable to hide a kind and genuine smile. But for the hospital bed, it could be a candid holiday snap.

Stephen’s bravery in the face of hardship, together with his generosity of spirit and positive message, stands as an inspiration to us all.

Why Does One Earpiece Typically Stop Working Before the Another?

There are numerous causes for the familiar (yet absurdly irritating) phenomenon. By and large, however, it is simply due to that loose wire which enable it to regularly be fixed by pushing the wire in the direction of the radio earpiece and, if needs be, affixing it into place with a bit of electrical tape, super glue, or some other bonding agent.

Occasionally, if the headphones have an inline volume wheel, that may be the source. That one is a little trickier to mend, but you possibly can always try the ‘wire trick’ described above and see if it works. If not, then open the volume controls and re-solder the wires into place (be warned, this may invalidate most warranties, so if ever the ‘phones remain covered, just send ‘em back and find replacements).

To avoid stuff like this occouring in the future, it’s highly recommended to wrap your cables vigilantly and avoiding stressing your headphones. No, I don’t mean you should give Motorhead a break and simply play floaty, soothing New-Agey songs on them, I mean that you should not have them within your back pocket when you sit down and you must detach them carefully from your ears after use (this will likely sound obvious, and you’d be stunned how many of us just rip ‘em out).

Another thing to take care for could be the jack, if the cable is fraying/wearing round the jack, then that will also be a problem. Fortunately, like a lot of everything in life, a small amount of electrical tape can really come in useful, just make sure all of the copper wiring is tightly bound and it should return to normal usage in no time.

Sometimes, however, it’s simply a sign the earpieces are knackered and no amount of clever tinkering can repair them. Generally, in these cases, the issue is internal. This unique variant on the problem also catches headphones of any price range, be they Poundland specials or your year old Sennheiser Eargasm headset. I am reminded of the Shakespeare quote from Hamlet, something about a king and the guts of an beggar, but I can not be bothered to look the entire thing up right now. You get the point I’m attempting to make though, everything dies ultimately, no matter what it cost you.
